The method
Before the sentences, understand what the examiner looks at. Tâche 1 is short, but it is failed on avoidable details: the word count, the register, or one forgotten piece of information.
What the examiner grades the FEI grid
| Criterion | What it means |
|---|---|
| Réalisation de la tâche the most important | Did you cover every point the prompt asks for? |
| Cohérence | Logical order and smooth flow, with linking words. |
| Lexique | Varied, correct vocabulary. Do not repeat the same words. |
| Grammaire | Verb agreement, spelling, articles. |
Fewer than 60 words is graded « A1 non atteint ».
The same happens if the text is off-topic or unreadable. A word is anything between two spaces, so c’est-à-dire counts as one word. Always stay between 60 and 120.
The skeleton of a good message
Every Tâche 1 message follows the same order. For an invitation you fill this skeleton with the seven steps below.
| Part | In plain terms |
|---|---|
| Ouverture | Opening: say hello, then a warm first line. |
| Corps | Body: the purpose, then the details, who, what, when, where, with whom. |
| Clôture | Closing: ask for a reply, then sign off. |
The prompt always tells you who you are writing to. A close friend or family member takes tu; a stranger, a superior, a shopkeeper or several people in a formal setting take vous. Pick one and keep it from start to finish.

This task leans on a handful of grammar and verb points. Open a quick refresher in a new tab, then come back and write.
The seven steps of an invitation
Follow these seven blocks in order and you answer everything. Each step gives you a formula you can reuse.
Greeting
Salut Sara, / Bonjour les amis, Hi Sara, / Hello everyone, then add J’espère que tu vas bien.
The purpose and the invitation
Je t’écris pour t’inviter à mon anniversaire. I’m writing to invite you to my birthday. With vous: Je vous écris pour vous inviter à…
Date and time
La fête aura lieu samedi à 18 h. The party will take place Saturday at 6 p.m.
A1 tip: aura lieu is a set phrase, learn it whole. Simpler and just as correct: La fête est samedi à 18 h.Place and address
chez moi. L’adresse est le 25, rue Saint-Denis. at my place. The address is 25 Saint-Denis Street. details below
The programme
Nous allons dîner ensemble et écouter de la musique. We are going to have dinner together and listen to music.

A few connectors lift your coherence score, the second thing the examiner grades. Open with D’abord (first), add with Ensuite or De plus (then / also), and close with Enfin (finally).
How to invite
Several ways to say “I invite you.” Vary your phrasing for a better vocabulary score.
| French | English |
|---|---|
| Je t’invite à ma fête. | I invite you to my party. |
| Je t’écris pour t’inviter à… | I’m writing to invite you to… |
| J’aimerais t’inviter à… | I’d like to invite you to… |
| Ça te dirait de venir à… ? | Would you feel like coming to…? |
| Tu es invité(e) à… | You’re invited to… |
| Viens à ma fête ! | Come to my party! |
Je t’écris pour t’inviter à [event].
Je t’écris pour t’inviter à l’anniversaire de mon ami Ali.
Giving an address
Saying where the event takes place. Three small structures are enough: chez, au / dans, and the exact address.
Inside a sentence
| Structure | Example |
|---|---|
| chez + person | chez moi, chez Ali, chez mes parents |
| au / à la / dans + place | au restaurant, à la maison, dans un parc |
| à + city | J’habite à Montréal. |
| L’adresse est le + number, street | L’adresse est le 25, rue Saint-Denis. |
Types of street
Common words
- une rue · a street
- une avenue · an avenue
- un boulevard · a boulevard
More words
- une place · a square
- un chemin · a lane or path
- un quartier · a neighbourhood
The full order on the envelope
From most precise to most general: name, then number and street, then postal code and city.
Sara Tremblay
410-2211, rue Saint-Hubert
Montréal (QC) H4R 0A5Sara Dupont 25, rue Victor-Hugo 75008 PARIS
In Canada, the apartment number can come before the civic number, joined by a hyphen: 410-2211. The province goes in parentheses (QC) and the postal code alternates letter and digit: H4R 0A5.
Put a small word before the number. French says C’est au 25, rue Saint-Denis or L’adresse est le 25, rue Saint-Denis, never L’adresse est 25 (that copies English). In France, the destination town is written in CAPITALS (PARIS). Do not put a comma after the street name. Inside a sentence, a comma after the civic number is normal: 25, rue Saint-Denis. In street names honouring a person, keep the hyphens: rue Victor-Hugo, rue Saint-Denis.
Making a request
Asking a friend to bring or do something. The same idea runs from most direct to most polite. Choose based on the person.
The politeness ladder
| Level | Structure and example |
|---|---|
| Direct | Impératif : Apporte le dessert, s’il te plaît. |
| Polite | Est-ce que tu peux apporter le dessert ? |
| More polite | Est-ce que tu pourrais apporter le dessert ? |
| Short and polite | Merci d’apporter le dessert. |
| Formal (vous) | Pourriez-vous apporter le dessert, s’il vous plaît ? |
Request builder
Choose an action and a politeness level. The correct sentence appears.
apporter is for a thing (the cake, the drinks). amener is for a person (a friend, your brother). Do not mix them.
